Facing new postwar rivals, Pan Am claimed the tagline it would own for a generation—"the World's Most Experienced Airline"—and its advertising sold the whole glamorous promise of the destination as much as the flight. From the dawn of the Jet Age—Pan Am flew the first daily transatlantic jet service in 1958—to the debut of the 747 Jet Clipper, the ads made global travel feel like the most exciting thing in the world.
