Tequila
Tequila is one of the "big five" spirits today, but for most of the twentieth century it was nearly invisible to American drinkers—which makes genuine vintage tequila ads a scarcer, more distinctive find than their whiskey or gin counterparts. The spirit rode into American life on the back of one cocktail—the margarita—and few did more to cement that laid-back, tequila-soaked ideal than Jimmy Buffett, whose 1977 hit "Margaritaville" turned it into a whole way of life. These ads are pure south-of-the-border romance—saturated color, painterly fiesta scenes, and the mid-century fascination with "Old Mexico" that turned agave into aspiration. Each is an authentic vintage print, a bright and relatively rare piece of cocktail history that livens up any bar wall.
