Founded in New York and a genuine pioneer of watch advertising, Bulova pitched itself as a brand of American ingenuity—never louder than with the 1960 Accutron. The Accutron's electronic tuning-fork movement was sold as something beyond a mere watch, a piece of the space age that cost as much as a Rolex. The famous dial-less Spaceview put the humming movement on full display—"It doesn't tick. It hums."—while ties to the US space program lent the ads real technological swagger.
