"If you were..." Ad Campaign

Beginning in 1967, Rolex ran what may be the most iconic advertising campaign in the brand's history. Launched that year, the "If you were..." advertisements ran through early 1970, trading the technical spec-sheets of earlier decades for something bolder: a stark black background, a single white headline in Helvetica, and an invitation. If you were flying the Concorde tomorrow, piloting a jet, addressing the United Nations, searching for lost empires—you'd wear a Rolex. Rather than selling features, the campaign sold a lifestyle, daring the reader to picture themselves at the far edge of ambition with a Rolex on the wrist.
